Laser Skin Resurfacing Q & A

How does laser skin resurfacing work?

Laser skin resurfacing is a noninvasive procedure that improves your skin’s appearance and texture using powerful laser light energy.

At ABC Aesthetics, the team uses fractional nonablative lasers by Cynosure® to activate the healing processes within your skin without hurting the surface.

Deep within your skin, the heat from the laser causes new collagen and elastin fibers to grow. These proteins provide structure, strength, and tightness to your tissues. The laser enters your skin in short pulses that are easy for your provider to control and direct.

For the best possible results, the ABC Aesthetics team might recommend multiple treatments with some recovery time between them. They may also suggest other treatments in conjunction with laser skin resurfacing, such as microneedling, for quicker and more effective healing.

How does laser skin resurfacing improve the look of my skin?

Laser skin resurfacing minimizes many common skin imperfections through its repair process. After a couple of treatments, you’ll see fewer or less noticeable:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Birthmarks
  • Liver spots
  • Gray or yellow tones
  • Warts
  • Small scars
  • Wide pores

Other skin concerns might see some improvement, too. In the end, you’ll notice that your skin feels firmer and smoother than when you first arrived for treatment.

What’s the difference between laser skin resurfacing and photorejuvenation?

Laser skin resurfacing and photorejuvenation are both available at ABC Aesthetics. They’re different treatments, but they both use energy from powerful light sources to reach deep into your skin and stimulate repairs.

While laser skin resurfacing uses focused beams of single-wavelength light, or lasers, photorejuvenation treatments use intense pulsed light (IPL).

IPL contains many wavelengths that aren’t as focused. IPL reaches deeper layers of skin and works especially well to break apart pigments and close off visible veins.

How should I prepare for laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing procedures require some preparation, and the ABC Aesthetics team makes sure you know the protocol before you arrive for your treatment. Before your appointment, you’re encouraged to:

  • Avoid sun exposure
  • Avoid tanning beds
  • Stop taking blood-thinning medications, like aspirin
  • Wait until any acne breakouts clear up
  • Remove or avoid using perfume

Taking these measures helps minimize your chances of negative side effects. Following the procedure, the team gives you aftercare instructions for a speedy recovery.

If you’re interested in improving your skin with light instead of injections, medicines, or surgeries, call ABC Aesthetics or request a consultation online today.
